Meeting Esther

Meeting Esther

When I think of Esther, it makes me smile! In the Bible we learn about another Esther… who was beautiful! Our Esther is beautiful, too! Her outward physical beauty, the way she treats people, the kindness that radiates from her… It’s all beautiful to me!

When we interviewed Esther, she was so nervous. She desperately wanted a job! Though she is brilliant, and has completed a degree beyond high school, it was in engineering! She told us she could help us with our internet issues! I wondered… why do you want to work with kids when you have a very different degree! Her response was that she always wanted to work with kids but had been offered a scholarship for an engineering school! I learned something new about Haitian thinking! If you get a scholarship… you take it, even if it’s not what you want to do. It was an opportunity… and she took it!

So, this brilliant, elegant, well-educated woman, who loves kids, but had never taught young children was willing to see if she could learn! Another opportunity! She struggled to learn some new ways of teaching. But, she listened, and has done well!!

Esther didn’t need to “learn” to love the kids! It’s just part of who she is! And the kids love her, too! We are so grateful Esther joined the family!

Esther shares…

Why did you want to work at AP?  I loves kids!

Are you happy working at AP? Yes Why? It’s like a family. The staff have embraced her. And she loves kids!

What do you enjoy about your job? The kids! They call her by her name!

What is your dream? To be responsible for and help care for the homeless & less fortunate kids. She would love to have an orphanage.

Tell me a little about your family – something you are willing to share. I’m married & would love to have kids!

What do you love/like about Haiti? The Haitian culture. It’s my country!

Prayer requests: Esther would love to have her own kids.

Mwen di puisque mwen abitye travay ak timoun men se timoun 6 an e plis. Mwen di m pral wè kòman, nan ki mesure ke map kapab adapte m avèk timoun yo epi m kòmanse. Mwen kòmanse nan ane a mwen wè m fini. Mwen vrèman santi ke mwen nan po m.

English Version

When I came to Apparent in March 2021, I had come there a several times.  I had come to submit my CV, and each those times the director had told me: “Nothing yet, there is nothing because of COVID-19, there’s nothing, there’s nothing”.  But when he called me in March 2021, I felt happy.  I have always loved children, but I had never worked with young children.  When they told me that they only had a job working with children 3 to 4 years old, I said I’m used to working with children, but with children 6 years old and older.  I said I will see how, and to what extent I can adapt to these children.  I started that year, and I finished it.  And this year I came back; I was able to adapt to them.  You know… in life, you are always learning! As things progress, I will end up adapting completely to the style of child and preschool education more precisely.

Also, when I came there, I’m welcomed by all the Apparent Staff. I see it’s not stressful. It’s not stressful like all the other jobs… like when you see the managing director, you feel stressed. You run to hide yourself; you rush to do something. I see it is not so.  I see it is really a family.  I feel at ease with the staff.  And even with the highest official, Marilyn as the highest official in the Staff, when I meet her physically, I feel fulfilled.

With the children too, every morning when I come here… “Esther, Esther!!!”  They are giving me a welcome that really touches my heart! I love this!  In addition to the other employees, all of us, we familiarized ourselves.  I really feel like myself. (Maybe Esther feels like “She’s in her skin!”)

Esther saw an opportunity… and took it! You can, too!

The ripple effects of you helping to serve our staff is exponential in the lives of the Haitian families that they are serving.

34 days to raise $400/month for 34 salaries! It’s not too hard. 34 people, 34 groups, 34 organizations… each catching the vision… providing $400/month for the next 12 months. A year’s commitment!

Together we can make a difference in Haiti!
