Marie George

Marie George

Back in August, we asked for prayer for our sweet Marie George, one of our seamstresses. We knew something was terribly wrong as she had not been feeling well and was losing weight rapidly.

The diagnosis was Colon Cancer.

We reached out again and asked for your help. You were so generous and donated enough for her to have the needed surgery.

After many months of fighting, we are sad to say that our friend has passed away.

Shelley shared this on Facebook today –

“On Christmas Day, our dear friend and seamstress passed away from colon cancer. When she started working for us in 2011, she didn’t know how to do anything except for basic crochet and so she started crocheting place mats. Her place mats took days for her to make and never sold at all. (I think I still have a few lying around!) It was at a time when we only sold on consignment and so she never made any money. I used to feel so bad about this diligent woman working so hard every day on her crochet and for months never making a dime. Finally, a team of seamstresses from Ellensburg, WA came and took the time to teach her how to sew. Over the next four years, she became one of our anchor seamstresses and earned a great living, taking care of her two children as a single mom. (Her husband died in the earthquake). This year she was diagnosed with cancer and there was very little we could do in terms of treatment for her. She died after suffering for many months. My heart is sad today, but I want to remember her for her perseverance and tenacity in one of the toughest situations in the world.
RIP Marie George. Bondye Beni ou fas a fas!”

So many of you donated financially and prayed for Marie George.  We did what we could to help her so she could continue to parent her daughter, Sarah.  Unfortunately, Haiti offers very little treatment options for aggressive cancers.

To all of you who prayed for her and donated financially  –  we humbly say “Thank You!”

You will be missed Marie George!!!
