Haiti Update – Hope

Haiti Update – Hope

It’s early November. Time to share some good news!  And time for an update about the current crisis in Haiti!

A time of reflection, joy and HOPE.

I spent the last 6 weeks sharing about our Apparent Project family. Our #34-400 challenge results…

AP Haiti staff will all receive their full pay for the first time in months! I am so grateful for those who gave one-time gifts, those who set up recurring contributions, and for each of you who have been consistent supporters (often for years!) You are ALL appreciated. Yes… more monthly support is needed to provide financial stability. 34 x $400 = about $14,000/month. Haiti expenses are $1500-$2000/month.  But you filled in the financial gap for October! We are grateful!

Our donors (you) together with our AP Haiti staff… made it happen. I sent the following message to our AP Haiti staff yesterday… I am so grateful for your help! In September… I began using … your words, your stories… and my thoughts about you… to create a blog about each of you…” People responded to your hopes & dreams, to your feelings about AP. They were impressed with you!”  Thank you so much for your help!”

And thank you to our donors!
You gave our AP Haiti family HOPE!

Update on the situation in Haiti.

This crisis has been more disruptive than anything since the 2010 Haiti earthquake. But there is a difference. In 2010, people within Haiti & foreigners all worked together to bring restoration and positive change.

The current situation feels like an internal war. I’m not an authority on Haiti, but from my experience since 2008, I’ve never seen Haiti in such a state. Since 2018, there has been political unrest. But this is like some of the traffic jams in Haiti where there are 4-6 lanes of cars facing each other with no one able to move. (If you’ve experienced this, you understand. And it often takes “outside help” to get traffic moving again.) Everything seems to have been at a standstill in Haiti since early September. The problems I shared on previous blogs/emails haven’t gone away. Fuel, Water, Internet, Transportation, Business/Markets, and Hunger! All are very real problems.
** Note: There was news this morning that there has been a breakthrough in the fuel blockade! I hope so!!! **

And, yes, the schools are still closed. However… we are strategizing on what can be done for our students who are anxiously awaiting their return to school. I plan to share what “outside help” we can give our students to break up the boredom, and provide some fun & some learning experiences outside of normal schoolwork. This requires thinking “outside the box!” We are raising future leaders! They will need to learn how to think outside the box, too!

There is HOPE for Haiti!

I don’t know if Haiti needs “outside help” in the form of “other countries.” But I do know that Haitians are a people of faith. At least my experience with Apparent Project staff has made it clear to me that they are a people of great faith in God! They look to Him for His help! They worship & pray together and share Scriptures. I am humbled by their faith during the incomprehensible challenges they face daily. Whether the stalemate in Haiti is broken by divine intervention, or some other means… there is HOPE.

I truly believe that someday Port au Prince will be called the Port of the Prince of Peace! Haiti will be a sign & a wonder for ALL to see! Some people might currently ask… “Can anything good come out of Haiti?” I say “Yes!” Something similar was asked about Nazareth! Then Jesus came… and He changed the world!

We have an opportunity to partner with Him, and bring change to the world, too! Thank you for your part in the process that will bring restoration to Haiti.

Together… we have made progress!

34 salaries at $400/month. It’s not too hard. 34 people or 34 groups or 34 organizations.
We are making a difference in the lives of Haitian families.
