Apparent Project began in late 2009 with four women who were at risk of relinquishing their children to an orphanage because of their economic situations. Four and a half years and a whole lot of jewelry later we are excited to see the difference that this project has made in the lives of nearly 250 artisans. But not just the artisans. Their children. Their families. The community.
Because we are all about keeping families together, we have always allowed moms to bring their infants to work with them. As we have grown, we have noticed the increasing need to come along side our most at-risk moms and help them care for their babies while they are at work.
Even at a living wage for most people, how does a single mom, 4 kids – 2 of them being infant twins, logistically provide quality care for her children when she is at work all day? Once the children are of school age, this is no longer a problem but we want to offer a service for the “in between” times or special cases. The times when it’s logistically difficult for that mom to care for her babies while working.
The jewelry sales provide employment for the artisans but we are stepping out in a new direction with the Daycare Center. Because we are offering this to our “at-risk” moms, and limiting it to only 12 children at a time, we want this to be offered as a benefit to working here. That means we need to raise the funds separately.
We need your help!
As you can see from the photos, we are almost ready to get started. But we are still in need of at least $3000 (one time gifts) to cover the cost of several items! Rocking chairs, a changing table, small chairs, plates, baby food, diapers, and more formula, etc.
And, we will have an ongoing need of $2400 in monthly expenses. This would include:
Thank you for ALL that you do to help make Apparent Project such a success! We appreciate the time and energy that you give by having jewelry parties or collecting/shipping cereal boxes. We could NOT do this without your support. You are not only helping moms but you are investing in the the next generation as well!
We will keep you up to date with the children that are in our program and needs that may arise – so check back often!
