Meeting Vesline

Meeting Vesline

I love Vesline! She was with Apparent Project before we opened our Childcare in 2014! I actually met her sometime soon after the 2010 earthquake. In 2011, she gave birth to her son. She & her baby were temporarily staying at the Apparent Project house. Her mother came to visit her that first week & met her son. The next week she received the sad news that her mom got cholera and died. It was overwhelming to think about this teenage mom, without the support of her mom. She was only 17. Broke my heart.

The story got worse… but Vesline has that Haitian determination to survive. She continued working at Apparent Project and managed to care for her son. When the AP Childcare opened in 2014, she was one of the original workers. Not only did she take care of babies all day, but she also cleaned the childcare area after work. It gave her a little extra money. As our childcare grew, Vesline assisted with the babies as needed, but became the full-time housekeeper. What a diligent worker!

During this time, Apparent Project was financially stable… but Vesline seemed to be struggling. The reason? She had purchased land!  She was using most of her money to finish paying it off the land. Eventually, she had a small “house” built on her land and now doesn’t need to pay rent. She has vision! and is willing to makes things happen! It is the goal of all Haitians to own land! To build their own homes!

This diligent single mom who faced so many challenges, survived and is doing well! She is now working to finish her schooling, something that previously was impossible to do. She also takes advantage of the Apparent Project job skills training. She has learned to type, learned some English & is working on learning Word & Excel.

Did I tell you she is also fun? Look at her, making coffee! The stove wasn’t working so Vesline & Lovely had fun preparing coffee for me.

Vesline Shares…

Are you happy working at AP? Yes Why? Helps with raising her son. Also, she now owns land, building a house, and not paying rent.

What do you enjoy about your job)? She likes “floating” around with all the kids. (She currently works with all the kids in the Childcare & Preschool area. It depends on which class needs help!)

What is your dream? Becoming a teacher; Working at AP.

Tell me a little about your family – something you are willing to share.  Her mother & her brother (from her mom) died from cholera shortly after the earthquake.  She has 4 sisters from her Dad. She has a son who she has raised as a single mom.

What do you love/like about Haiti? Since she is working, she is OK in Haiti. If she had no work, she would probably go to a different country.

Prayer requests: Pray that Haiti changes. Pray for AP! It gives hope!

Chaos & oppression in Haiti block opportunities for the poor.

Apparent Project offers the quality education & job skills training needed to help the poor rise up out of poverty and become future leaders of integrity in Haiti.
