In Haiti, poverty and the legacy of slavery have caused a staggering culture of child abandonment and male neglect of family commitments. 70% of labor-aged Haitians are unemployed while the employed earn an average annual wage of $400.
In 2009, awareness of the need for income led to the birthing of AP’s artisan training. Through AP, Haitians were able to provide for their families. In 2014, the AP Institute was established, empowering artisans with broader employment skills. The AP Childcare was also established to provide a safe place for parents to leave infants and toddlers while at work.
